Abstract :
Desired outcomes from increased digitalization are as diverse as improving efficiency, increasing productivity, growing the sustainability of business practices, decreasing the experimental work burden, etc. Successfully responding to each of these points likely requires years of developmental investment, but interesting challenges and opportunities can already be discussed.
One outstanding challenge is to have a critical view of large data files, and to contextualize them before drawing conclusions. A software tool can help organize information in a way that makes sense to the user through identifying outliers and general trends. With experimental data well organized, one can think using predictive simulation for optimizing bio processes. An illustration will be given with IEX and the use of MCC for mAb capture.
Finally, for complex integrated processes, predictive simulation is not available. This is where an expert’s ability to make an educated guess plays a strong role in correctly assessing different options. Examples are the ASAP and EASY processes of Sanofi.
Efficient enterprise software should not aim to replace human skills, but to potentialize them. This can be accomplished through ensuring easy communication, removing ambiguities, and developing users’ system knowledge and intuition.
